Year 2

Miss Foster (Teacher) / Mrs Telford (SEN)

In Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2) we build upon and respect the very good start the children receive in the EYFS. We aim to create and provide a safe, secure, motivational and thought-provoking environment that encourages children to become curious and independent learners.

There is a balance between adult directed, child led and independent activities; which incorporates creativity and investigative learning with a solid foundation in more formal methods.

This approach allows for a smooth transition for the children from the Early Years Foundation Stage and encourages the development of self-esteem, independence and mutual respect.

Human Sentences – Year 2

To practise constructing sentences and remembering to use full stops, capital letters and conjunctions, we worked together to practise building sentences then identifying the types of words we had used.

Music – Rhythms and Maps

Children had to follow a map to find where in the school the sounds were coming from and then we made our own rhythms to represent different rooms in the school.

A Trip to the Baltic and Quayside

Year 1 and 2 visited the Gateshead Quayside this morning, where we walked across the Millennium bridge over to Newcastle. We were lucky enough to see the bridge tilting from the top of the Baltic to allow the Navy boat to pass. In the Baltic we went to the observation deck and looked at all of the bridges over the Tyne. Back inside we sketched the bridges and made our own model bridges. It was a very busy morning but we learnt a lot and had a great time!

Where the wild things are – Year 2

We have loved reading Where the Wild Things Are and acting out the story. To imagine what it would have been like at the Wild Rumpus, we made our own masks and had a mini Rumpus at school. We imagined what the Wild Things would have been doing, the noises they would have made and what it would have felt like to be part of it. We had so much fun and even scared the Year 1 children!
