Year 2

Miss Foster (Teacher) / Miss Scott

In Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2) we build upon and respect the very good start the children receive in the EYFS. We aim to create and provide a safe, secure, motivational and thought-provoking environment that encourages children to become curious and independent learners.

There is a balance between adult directed, child led and independent activities; which incorporates creativity and investigative learning with a solid foundation in more formal methods.

This approach allows for a smooth transition for the children from the Early Years Foundation Stage and encourages the development of self-esteem, independence and mutual respect.

Science – Living Things

Emoji Masks – Year 2

On Thursday Year 1 and 2 visited the Vue cinema in Gateshead to watch the Emoji Movie as part of the Into film festival. We all had sweets and popcorn whilst we watched the movie. Everyone had a great time laughing at the jokes, dancing and singing to the songs and afterwards talking about the different emojis. We then discussed the story once we were back at school and realised why being different is a good thing.

Acting Out Guy Fawkes

We have been learning about Guy Fawkes and why he is remembered. We worked in a small group to act out the story of the gun powder plot and then drew story maps and wrote messages as if we were Guy Fawkes. The children were very interested to learn about why we celebrate bonfire night and loved learning the rhyme.
