Year 1

Mrs Leaver (Teacher) / Mrs Telford (ARMs) / Mrs Cunningham
YEAR 1

Welcome

In Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2) we build upon and respect the very good start the children receive in the EYFS. We aim to create and provide a safe, secure, motivational and thought-provoking environment that encourages children to become curious and independent learners.

There is a balance between adult directed, child led and independent activities; which incorporates creativity and investigative learning with a solid foundation in more formal methods.

This approach allows for a smooth transition for the children from the Early Years Foundation Stage and encourages the development of self-esteem, independence and mutual respect.

Vehicle building

To link with our topic on India we were given a challenge to build a vehicle that we could use to explore the forest. Last week we designed our vehicles, thinking carefully about what they would need, and this week we have been building them. We learnt how to connect...

I’ll huff and I’ll puff…

We have been learning the story of The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig which is a twist on the traditional tale. We have not learnt or heard the end of the story so this week we created our own endings. We worked in groups to act out our ending following a...
