Year 5 have been taking a crash course in espionage, with a particular focus on encryption and decoding.

They have learnt how to crack codes, especially with a mathematical twist, as well as how to create their own.

Looking at Morse code gave them a great insight into the complexities of how difficult it was to really understand and know the alphabet to decipher the dots and dashes quickly.

They have decided that the key skills needed to be a spy are:

  • listening
  • communicating clearly
  • understanding the codes
  • being a great mathematician
