On Wednesday 14th March, the pupils in Y5 and 6 celebrated Pi Day.

After establishing that it isn’t a day to celebrate eating pie, we learnt through a range of activities about pi.

Pi is an infinite number, which links the diameter and circumference of a circle. It’s celebrated on the 14th March because of the date – in America it’s written as 3/14 – pi is equal to 3.14

We began by making a circle and learning the vocabulary: circumference, diameter, radius, arc and sector. Mrs McCall then chose a child and a word – children then ran/walked to show where it was found.

We then tried to use compasses, some children surprised themselves at how easy they found it!
